High School

A lot of rubbish things I’ve done in middle school and proud of them I’m not, so I would like to move on the high school period.

My whole family was in army, and as I said before, becoming a pilot was my dream. This is the reason why it was easy for me to choose a high school.

Military high school is in top 5 high schools in my country, so getting in there was not that easy.

First, I had to pass some medical examination which was not a problem. I spend an entire day running in a hospital from a consulting room to another, and that was it.

Next step was the sport test. We had to run 1.000m, do some pull ups, and so on. This test was not a problem either, because when I was a kid I always enjoyed running and doing physical exercises.

The last part was a test which consists in math and grammar exercises. I was a little bit nervous at this step, but in the end, I got the 24th place and there were 100 spots.

Another reason because of which I wanted this high school, was that I wanted to be on my own. I wanted to learn how to deal with my life without my parent’s help, and it really helped me. A kid, at 14, who goes away from home to a strict and compelling system gets the advantage of accelerated ageing.

First year we had to come sooner from summer holiday because we had to learn some military stuffs.

As soon as we got there, we took our uniforms, went to our bedrooms (we lived 10-12 in a room), suit up and after that outside we went. There was our captain, 2 more officers and 5 4th years who were going to ‘take care’ of us.

It was very hard at first. The most difficult thing for me was waking up at 6 am and going outside to do some physical exercises. There were mornings when tears were coming out of my eyes while I was going outside and I was saying ‘this is the last morning! I’ll call my parents and tell them to come and pick me up. I can’t do it anymore….’.

It was very hard because we were exhausted both physically and mentally too.

               This was our schedule:

  • 6:00-6:30 Physical exercises
  • 6:30-7:00 Shower, suit up, clean the bedrooms, toilets, classes, etc
  • 7:00-7:30 Breakfast
  • 7:30-8:00 Our Captain telling us how dirty we are.
  • 8:00-14:00 Classes
  • 14:00-14:30 Our Captain telling us how stupid we are.
  • 14:30-15:00 Lunch
  • 15:00-16:00 Free time (sleep time)
  • 16:00-20:00 We studied in classes with a supervisor
  • 20:00-20:30 Lunch
  • 20:30-22:00 More cleaning plus shower time.
  • 22:00- Lights out.

The thing is that we never managed to finish our homework in just 4 hours. So usually we were staying up until 1-2 am just to finish them. That’s why I said that we were tired both physically and mentally.

Although it was hard, these years were the best years of my life and you’ll see next time why.
